I'm Eric Rowell. I build websites that work for small businesses.

I've spent over a decade as a software engineer, and now I run EMR Digital, a one-person web development and technical SEO studio in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I build websites for small businesses and independent practices.

How I got here

I've been building things with computers since my parents brought home a Windows 95 PC. That curiosity turned into a computer science degree from the University of North Texas and a career that's spanned over thirteen years of professional software engineering.

I started in mobile app development during the early days of iOS and Android, building apps that scaled to millions of users across dozens of products. That's where I learned the fundamentals of UI design, user experience, and building things real people actually use. From there I moved into full-stack web development, building web applications, backend systems, APIs, data pipelines, and data warehouses. I worked alongside product managers and designers and learned how to deliver complete products, not just code.

In my later career, I moved into senior and leadership roles: leading an engineering team, mentoring other engineers, and making architectural decisions across complex systems. The common thread through all of it has been building things that solve real problems for real people.

Now I apply all of that experience to something more focused: building websites for small businesses and independent practices. It's a different scale, but the principles are the same. Understand the problem and build the right solution.

Why I started EMR Digital

I enjoyed the challenging work of building software for other companies, and I learned an enormous amount, but I wanted more ownership over what I was building and who I was building it for. I wanted to work directly with people, solve problems I could see the impact of, and build something of my own.

As I thought about where I could be most useful, I kept noticing a pattern. There are a lot of great small businesses out there with websites that don't reflect how good they actually are. Not because they don't care, but because they don't have the time or the expertise to focus on it. The options they usually run into get them part of the way there, but not all the way. I saw an opportunity to bring the same level of thought and care I used in larger software projects into a space that doesn't often get it.

That's who I like working with. People who are great at what they do and want their website to actually support their business, not just exist. My goal is simple. Build something that represents your work well and helps more people find you.

How I work with clients

Every business is different, but the process is straightforward. Here's what working together looks like.

It starts with understanding your business

Before anything gets designed or built, I take the time to learn about your business, your customers, and what you want your website to do for you. The goal is to build something that actually reflects who you are and how you work, not just something that looks good.

You stay involved without having to manage everything

I handle the technical side. You don't need to worry about code, SEO, or hosting. You'll see progress at key points, and your input helps shape the final result, but you're not stuck managing the process day to day.

The site launches, and it keeps improving

Launch day is just the starting point. After the site goes live, I continue to monitor it, keep things running smoothly, and make updates based on how it's performing. The goal is a site that keeps getting better over time, not one that gets left behind.

I'm a real person you can reach

If you need something, you reach out to me directly. No support tickets or handoffs. I'm responsive, I keep you informed, and I treat your business with the same level of care I'd want for my own.

Think we might be a good fit?

I'd love to hear about your business. Reach out and we'll have a conversation about what you need and how I can help.
